Add custom scientific illustrations to your signage, book or marketing
Our scientific illustrations are thoroughly researched and created from a variety of reference material and taxonomic information. Drawing from specimen is ideal but not always possible. Copyright remains with the artist.
What to expect from us
Initial consultation for a quote:
Think about the size you'll need the final artwork (A6, A5, A4 and A3 or custom sizing), the scope of use (once or across a project) or multiple times. As well as where the artwork will be used.
This will inform the initial quote process. Do you have a budget to work to? If so give us a rough idea. We'll also need to know if you have a project deadline?
Draft sketch
What you'll receive:
We'll email you a graphite sketch for you to check the drawing is what you are after. This is your chance to change things. Once this is signed off, we go to final drawing.
First Draft colour & black and white
Once the final drawing is done we'll email you again to check the colours / details are to your satisfaction. Minor changes are included in your quote. However if the entire drawing needs changing, there may be an additional fee.
What are your choices
Black and White - Traditional
- Pen and Ink
A well drawn pen and ink drawing can be reproduced in a multitude of ways. Including one colour printing, photocopying, stamping, patterns, laser cut, etched. An excellent choice for simple signage, journals and taxonomic publications. - Graphite
Final result can be highly finished or a 'sketched' look. Good quality graphite and papers are used. - Scraperboard
A highly detailed finish which works for high quality publications. Artwork is blocked and form is scratched out. Creates a photo realistic result.
Colour - Traditional
Colour pencils - A highly realistic image can be created. Works well for images of fauna. Can be used in magazines, publications and signs. We use Prismacolor pencils and high quality art board.
Watercolour - A highly realistic image can be created. Works well for botanical works. Great for taxonomic publications, marketing material.
Colour - Digital
Vector - Build up of flat shapes and colours. A great choice for signage. A vector illustration can be reduced and enlarged to any size without losing quality. Can be realistic or stylised. We use Adobe Illustrator to create the final image.
Pixel - A highly realistic image can be created. Photography can be used as a base or layers built up from scratch. Works well for interpretive signage. Gradients and moods are easier to create using this method. Working file size is very large and must be created to size to appear sharp. We use Adobe Photoshop.
Graphic Design
We can design anything from logos, marketing and events material, interpretive signage to full reports or publications. If required, we can also provide photography and copywriting. We work with the Adobe creative suite.
Looking forward to hearing about your project and working with you to make it amazing.
